1. Installation context

In 2018, MITA Water Technologies partnered with Suez Water Treatment to supply a tertiary filtration system to the Cuma sewage treatment plant, located in the province of Naples. This plant, operated by Cuma Scarl, represents one of the largest tertiary filtration systems in Europe.

2. Proposed solution

The solution proposed by MITA Water Technologies was the supply of 16 disc filters model MSF 32/160 PPC FHD. These filters were chosen as an upgrade from the previous 24 cloth filters model 28/140 PPC FHD initially proposed. The 16 disc filters were installed in concrete tanks within the plant’s tertiary filtration compartment.

3. Technical detail of operation

Thanks to the implementation of the tertiary filtration system with disc filters from MITA Water Technologies, the Cuma treatment plant achieved significant results. The customer’s requirements, which included the reduction of suspended solids for effluent refinement before discharge to surface water, were successfully met. In addition, the total suspended solids (SST) output was reduced to less than 5 mg/l, ensuring high quality treated water.

The solution provided by MITA Water Technologies was supported by comprehensive services, including transportation, installation assistance, testing, and start-up of the plant. The perseverance and determination demonstrated during the contracting stages with the client were key to the success of this project.
